I felt inspired today when I looked through =fighter-jet 's gallery. I loved how he/she (sorry, I don't know) used grains and textures and stuff on some of his/her drawing, plus the gray/sepia ish tones. I just wanted to try something similar.. ^^;

I might have overdone it though :B

The quote is from the song "Nutshell" by Alice In Chains. I wanted to use the "people cry because they've been strong for too long" thingy, but it just felt too cheesy..
But the quote from Nutshell was just perfect, in my opinion. It fits so much to the situation Spike is in when this scene takes place.

The song gets me worked up, and I cry every time: Staley's voice makes feel all sorts of weird things.

Hey, I believe this is the first time I commented on one of your deviations so...

What I really like about this is deviation the somber atmosphere. I remember my brother telling me something about the rules of three or something about photography and how it adds the dramatic effect. You did a splendid job by placing the character on the far right and his gloomy expression looking to the left enhances the melancholy scene. I also like the smooth shading and details. The background looks like gloomy clouds and I'm a big fan of neutral hues, sketches, and still life pieces. I don't know if you were going for a still life for this piece but the way you drew this reminds me of a still life and still life are usually the most realistic of drawings and this powerful scene is very realistic to the point that you just want to reach out to the screen and comfort the dude.
Someone has to be pretty heartless to not feel for this guy, especially after reading the quote on the left. Once the viewer puts every detail together, really tugs at the heart until you're forced to cry yourself.

Oh and....this may be a odd coincidence...but when I was in the first grade and starting off my art/writing career my very first characters were actually anthropomorphic animals. I always placed them in human situations and treated them as if they were humans characters and placed them in realistic stories. I drew them more because I was better at drawing animal characters than humans, plus I grew up watching Looney Tunes and stuff like that so animal character were a major influence on my career. I eventually grew out of that anthro animal phase when I was older and improved my human drawing skills... but when I came across your profile and saw your characters, it brought me back to those days of my animal characters. Right now I'm actually working on a throw back story as a tribute to those childhood anthro characters. Of course the characters are humans... but they are representations of my childhood characters. Just as an example... Gue is a throw back to Chris Cheetah and Max Lobos is a throwback to Max Wolf. So, it was very awesome to see anthro animal characters that reminded me of my own animal characters and as I said that was in the first grade in ''s 2013 and I'm 22 borderline 23 so that's really diving back some years. In short, thanks for the nostalgic flashback. It brought me back to my roots.

Anyways back to your piece... Overall this is a very powerful scene and as I said I checked bits of your profile and saw the direction you're going characters. Personally I think it's going to be a influential story and from one writer to another I wish you best of luck and as I always say, when an artist/author pour their soul into their work it will have a very deep impact on the audience.

(P.S. I did attempt reading your story... and just to show how powerful it is... I actually got queasy while reading the first chapter and had to stop before I fainted and I'm not the one to get queasy from reading books. You really have some talent so keep up the great work!)
