Yesterday, I took a break from all my obligations and whatnot, and decided I wanted to try drawing some actual comic pages for "SPIKE" the Graphic Novel. I haven't drawn comic pages - other than humorous, single page comics - in what's got to be years now. What's always stopped me is that I have several ideas for how each panel should look, which makes it hard to decide which shot to go for, which in turn just ends up postponing it all because I'm so indecisive. So, yesterday, I figured I should just make comics like I did when I was fourteen: back then I started out with an idea for a dialogue + action, and just drew panel by panel, coming up with things as I went. I did almost the same thing yesterday, at least followed the same go-with-the-flow idea. I had a dialogue and a scene ready planned and played out in my head, but I wrote down the dialogue first. Then I drew thumbnail page sketches, tiny and quick little drawings in each tiny little panel. That ended up being a quick, improvised script of - so far - four pages. After the thumbnail sketches / page layouts were done, I re-drew them on A3 sized paper, sketching it out in a bigger and more detailed way. I managed to draw two pages that day, which I'm very happy with having done
I mean, sure, the sketches could probably have been done better and the panels planned better, especially in page two, but I'm very happy that I actually managed to sit down and get started on the graphic novel, despite having started right in.. I dunno, chapter 30-something??
I've blurred out the text, sorry... but I wanted to show you this as a sort of proof that I've actually started
And for the sake of uploading something. I haven't uploaded anything new in forever, and I've been very absent from DA, so my apologies for that... :c
Truth is I think I'll have my hands full with real life stuff, commissions and my job and whatnot, and the few times I have the "time off", I'll try to spend it on writing or drawing "SPIKE". So... I'll check by DA every now and then, but I might not be as active for the next two months. After the middle of May, I've got my summer vacation to do lots and lots of artsy stuff!
looking forward to that ^u^
I hope you guys like this
Also let me know if you don't want me to show you teasers like this..? I'll try not to show you any major spoilers
but let me know if any of you would like me to keep all the pages secret until I've finished the graphic novel.
